CDC Reports West Nile Virus Cases for 2005
The number of reported cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) was slightly higher in 2005 than in 2004, but less than 30% of the cases in 2003. As of January 2006, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists 2,819 cases of WNV for 2005. Forty-two percent of cases exhibited symptoms of meningitis or encephalitis, and there were 105 deaths.
